Carlyn Chua, 21 year-old Psychology student with a minor in English Literature at Ateneo de Manila University.
While studying the minds of people, this Atenean also loves painting and drawing. Her natural inclination in the aesthetics is also translated through what she wears. Studying psychology while balancing a hectic academic lifestyle of school work and extra-curricular activities is surely daunting. Carlyn makes sure she’s wearing the most comfortable clothes to cope with the unmerciful sun while she takes those short walks around her campus.
What do you usually wear to school?

I live in loose, billowy tops and shorts, paired with ballet flats and dangling earrings.

Wardrobe inspiration?

Nothing in particular, but maybe it’d be from fashion magazines and period/indie films.

Any Advise to those aspiring to build a look of their wardrobe?

Discomfort is the worst and most unattractive accessory to have on, so if gauging your clothes or shoes for comfort requires YOU dancing in the fitting room, DO IT.

Ideal outfit of a date or a night out?

A Little Black Dress with anything to accent it. Heels, a Clutch or fine jewelry.

While shooting the Chic League cover, we’ve managed to chat with our models. Each having their own unique style and personality.
Chic League takes a look at:
Peach Resurreccion, a 17 year old Fashion Design Student from Raffles Design Institute - Manila.
Peach was a recent graduate from Colegio San Agustin Makati and was the high school team captain for tennis. She plays the piano in her spare time; now she knows how to sew.
She decided to take Fashion Design because of love of everything fashion and how she wants to be a part of it all. Her 2-year course is pretty hectic. Students are trained to work under pressure, especially fashion design students. It’s only her fourth week in Raffles but she’s already pressured to manufacture her collection, considering that she’d recently learned to sew her pieces two weeks ago. Peach says,

“you really have to be strong enough to handle the pressure”.

Albeit the fast-paced student life, Peach mentions that, everything’s just great in Raffles; the students are friendly and so are the instructors.
What do you usually wear to school?

I usually wear clothes that look very laid back. I also incorporate timeless pieces in my wardrobe.

What inspires you to dress up?

I have no particular inspirations when dressing up. I just choose whatever looks good at me!

Any Advise to those aspiring to build their wardrobe?

I would suggest you to go out and get investment pieces that are timeless. Clothes that you can wear for the cold and warm environments . Nude Colors! They’re always stylish!

Wardrobe essentials and styling tricks?

You always need good accessories to give your outfit a little bit of that “oomph!”

Ideal outfit for a night out?

Anything that flatters my body type and gives me that ‘wow’ factor. I usually go with a nice dress, good accessories and great heels to boot.

Describe your personal style!

I would best describe my style as something glamours yet chic. I love clothes that make me standout; I don’t usually follow trends because I like having my own style.

Darren Apolonio, Multimedia Arts student at the College of Saint Benilde - School of Design and Arts
Wardrobe:
Skeleton shirt from Hot Topic
Skeleton hand bracelets from Hot Topic
3-inch heel leather boots from Demonia
Gold accented Fedora hat from People Are People
We had a little chat with Darren and he says:
“Nothing’s more stressful than Course Card distribution during the killer heat. So I opted to wear a Summer-friendly outfit while still keeping a sinister rock n roll look. A style trick I’ve been harboring is to add an edgy yet glam twist by contrasting the all-black matte tones with sparkly elements to give the outfit a bit more glam-rock vibe. And to even push the look over the edge, I topped it off with a 3-inch heel, patent boots.”
